Hello, Cupcake!

On my second day in my new 'hood, I found this great little shop called Hello Cupcake.

They serve, you guessed it, cupcakes. But, not just any cupcake, but beautiful, artisan, flavorful cakes of goodness.

The best part? The gluten-free flavors rotate. Daily.

For my work BFF, they also rotate their vegan flavors daily.

Could this be? Within 24 hours of being in this town, I find the perfect cupcakery?

It is true.

I had a delicious strawberry lemonade cupcake...lemon zest cake with strawberry frosting.

AH.

MAZE.

ZING.

Take a second to peruse their website savoring their delicious visual eats. And if you're near Dupont Circle, make a point to visit this little shop and taste the yumminess for yourself.

Legit went tourist in this shop.
(This also serves as notice that anyone that comes to visit me will have a mandatory stop. Just sayin'.)

So What Wednesday's Valliant Return!

First, head over to Life After I Dew and link up to say "So what".

Here's what I'm saying SO WHAT to today, and filling in for some past Wednesdays:

  • I didn't go to bootcamp this morning? When my alarm went off, my dog Harry snuggled up closer. With my short time before I leave, I'm not about to pass up snuggles with my fur baby.
  • I haven't said so what in blog form? I know you've missed it, and it's back. OK, we've acknowledged it. Moving on.
  • I'm making my BFF a pack mule when she comes out to DC with me this weekend? I need clothes and luggage, she has two free bags on Southwest. I'll buy her dinner.
  • I haven't blogged about my birthday or my going away party? As I mentioned in brief yesterday, I don't have cords for my camera since they're packed, and to be honest, I'm a little scared of what the camera has to tell.
  • I did shameless self promotion of my birthday on twitter? Facebook lets me be passive by posting my birthday in my profile and stalkerfeed fills it in for all of my friends. What's not to love about getting some virtual birthday love?
  • I have planned out my first three days in DC down to the hour? I've got a lot to do, little time, and the BFF is a planner like me and along for the ride.
  • I am more than slightly obsessesed with BravoTV? I need to turn in my DVR before I leave, but I can't seem to part with my episodes of Bethenny and Real Housewives. (Because they never air again. Ever.)
  • I also shamelessly promote my side blog for my Adventures In The District? Really, you should follow that blog, too.
  • Speaking of shameless, follow (err...request to follow me) on twitter.

Gearing Up for the Big Move!

So, I don't have any pictures to share of my going away/birthday weekend because I've packed up all my cords, so this is going to be a short and sweet, picture-less post.

I will be flying out Friday morning for DC (go over to Adventures In The District to read more) so as of late, I have had zero time to blog. But, best believe that I'll be back once I get moved into my new digs! I will have plenty of caffeine and cocktails to blog about!

See you all from the eastern time zone and our (maybe not your) nation's captial!

Whirlwind Wedding Planning in Texas

After only 48 hours, my cousin Lauren's wedding planning is nearly complete. For the major things, she only has the cake and invitations to go.

How did we get to that point? Through stacked appointments lining up colors, floral design, dress stores, caterer tastings, and photographer meeting. After those two days? I'm more inclined to elope now more than ever! (Who am I kidding. I won't elope.)

Here's a sneak peek of the maid of honor dress and what I will be rocking as a standard 'maid.
This is the MOH's dress via

I'll be wearing this Grecian inspired number via
The last two days were great to spend with my two cousins and aunt before I head to the East coast. I'm wiped out from being on the go for the last 48 hours, but the exhaustion will just mean that I'll sleep soundly tonight.

Now, back to reality and buckling down for the next seven days to get myself ready for a move I've been avoiding packing for or even thinking about.

Random Bits from My Brain

To catch up on the randomness that is my life, I thought I would just do a little bullet list.

  • Bloggers, I know you pimped out your blog with music, but it freezes my comp and forces me to close the window so I can function (read: work) again and not read your blog. Please take off the auto-play.
  • I've caught up on my blogs from 2-ish weeks...whoa, have I missed a lot. I haven't really commented, but you'll be comforted to know that I lurk. (Get it? It's creepy, but not really?)
  • I have a black-tie benefit this evening, a brunch tomorrow, leave for Texas after work Monday, wedding planning a-go-go for Lauren, then next Thursday and Friday, I'll be doing the final packing for DC because Saturday through Thursday is full of things and people that will distract me take my time.
  • I'm still addicted to twitter (@anaosb) and WWF (anaosb). I know I'm a ninja with my user names.
  • I have been loving the weather in Denver this week! It's been gorgeous and I have even managed to get out and soak in the vitamin D naturally.
  • I need some new tunes to jam to...suggestions?
  • I should probably get around to packing, but I'm not ready to wrap my head around that until next week since I know that I'll be living from a suit case slash having to plan my ensembles for the following 10 days, so, eh I'm over it.
  • I can. not. wait. to have a place of my own once again. Having candies, processed foods, and overall temptations around all the time is a killer for trying to stay healthy. Being in control of the food stores will make it that much easier.
  • Have you noticed that the generation between 16-22 right now is very unkempt, and well, dirty? Or maybe it was just because I was in Boulder, but my high school slash college only had a dash of Seattle grunge and the rest of it was dominated by Gap and Abercrombie & Fitch. I guess times change and this means that I'm old.
  • Speaking of old, I got the invite for my 10-year reunion...which is being planned long distance from the two StuCo reps from Steamboat Springs and Luxembourg. (That's right, the country.) I doubt that I'll make it since it's in Denver in July, but who knows. Maybe I'll make my own reunion with the people I want to see.
  • After my cruiser ride, I think I'm ready to get back on the bike. Ever since my "incident" my freshman year of college where I was hit by a car (yes, hit by a car) on a sidewalk (yes, the sidewalk as the car was turning into a parking lot), I've been a little nervous about riding a bike.
  • I'm ready for summer. I'm sure spring will be gorgeous, but I want summer.
That is all.

Scatter Brained

Ever have one of those days (weeks) where you have a million little blog posts or none at all? I'm a little all over the place lately, so I'm behind on my blog reading (read: stalking) - like, Salt & Lime microwavable popcorn?! Thank little baby Jesus for twitter -and I can't seem to form a thought to blog.

Ok, obviously I can because I writing this, but it's not the stuff I have going on in my head.

I did post over on my DC blog Adventures in the District and that seemed to help me a little, but then I got a phone call about my plane ticket to DC, and now my mind is mush once again.

I hope all of you are having lovely days slash weeks and that you will forgive me when I comment on old posts once I come up for air.

Donning the Dress Once Again

I think I have completely spaced telling y'all that A) my cousin Lauren got engaged and B) I'm a bridesmaid.

First things first, between her, her sister Lisa, and me, we totally thought we would go in opposite age order for getting married. Or, more specifically, that Lisa would be married first, then Lauren and I would duke it out for last married. Well, she met her lobster at Texas A&M and they're getting hitched!

Now, onto the fun part - the wedding! Thankfully for me and Lisa, Lauren has turned over creative control. (Perhaps to her own dismay, but only time will tell.) Lisa is a super chic interior design major and since we're both in sororities, we've got the crafty part covered. Not to mention that I've got the expereience in attending so many weddings. It will be in San Antonio/New Braunfels, TX in September and I'm so excited! This will be the first wedding on my mom's side since 1994 and the first of our generation. (OK, so the wedding from 1994 was from our generation as far as family goes, but since I was in middle school, I'm talking societal generations here.)

I'm heading out to Texas in two weeks to go dress shopping for Lauren and us bridesmaids. We're also going to look at the venue, figure out lodging, and talk about other bits and pieces of the wedding. My aunt (her mama) and Lisa will be coming from Arizona, so it will be nice to see all of them before I go to DC.

Lastly, I get to wear a deep purple dress! I'm so psyched because the color looks gorge with my skin tone and hair color. Thanks, Lauren. ha.

I promise I'll blog about the trip with pics to make the post more exciting when I get back...in two weeks. Oy. I really need to make that list.

Standing Still

Ever feel like certain aspects of your day or life have an altered speed?

For example, on slower days like today, I feel like time is standing still at work. Sure there's little housekeeping projects to do, but I can only stare at addresses so long before I go cross-eyed. I do enjoy that I get to keep up on my guilty pleasures of blogs, twitter, and fb, but really, I feel like it's wasted time.

What would I be doing with that time away from my desk if it were for personal use, I have no idea, but it would something.

In other aspects of my life, I feel like the pace of life is something that I'm struggling to keep up with. I have four weeks to get packs and moved to DC, but I only seem to have short sighted goals right now. Namely, Restaurant Week, Boozing Brunch Bunch, and then a trip to Texas. After that, I'll have my birthday/going away party (Paging Chelsea...we need to talk.), then there's my birthday and last week of work in Denver, then I move. It's all right there in front of me, but I don't have any movement on my part.

I really just need to have a  master task list and just get to it. Granted, I can't do certain things out of order like get back from Texas before I go, or ship boxes before they're packed or I would be there to receive them. But I'm a big list maker. And when the list gets to messy from notes and crossed off items, I make another clean, perfect list.

(Side note: I'm becoming my mother. Hold me.)

Here's to making a master task list and hopefully filling my afternoon.
